Short Eared Owl from Charlton hide 14.50. All pools frozen except small pool on East Marsh birds of note- Sparrowhawk,3 Little Grebe,8 Snipe, Green& G.S Woodpecker, Goldcrest, Nuthatch,Treecreeper, 30+ Feildfare, 20+ Redwings. The New Zealand Scaup (escapee)was with the tufted ducks on Eas Marsh 12:30. Dissappointing Starling roost under 200 birds tonight.

Cold weather migration watch from 07.30 untill 09.30 produced 20 lapwings west 5 white-fronted geese 25 skylarks 130 wood pigeons all west to south west and at altitude. Flock of redpoll sp. 250 from reserve into brandon wood

Starling roost c.600, Several Water Rail calling on newlands, Sparrowhawk tried a few times for the starlings, Buzzard, Redwing (10+), Siksin/Redpoll in alders. Pools frozen, Gadwall, Teal, Shoveler, Pochard.

Huge Buzzard in tne trees at Top Pools upon arrival.
Short Eared Owl seen at the left of Newlands reedbed at 3.30pm.
During the Starlings roost there seemed what looked like a Peregine dive bomb through the Starlings over Newlands, did anyone else see it, or was it a Sparrowhawk,the light was poor?

Today's Highlights:

Short-Eared Owl flew in high from the East @ 1pm circling over over East Marsh Pool & Teal Pool before finally disappearing to the far right of Newlands Reedbed! Possibly a different bird to the Sheep Field one??

Also Jack Snipe showing well on Willow Island and Chiffchaff @ Carlton!
