A Bittern flew from the left and landed on a branch, above the reeds, directly opposite Steetley hide. It 'perched' for about 7 minutes,completely in the open and then flew down into the reeds and was not seen again. I took a number of photographs and a 2 minute video unfortunately all 'backlit' by the low sun as is usual in the afternoon from Steetley

A quiet day on the reserve but plenty of birds. Highlights for me were: nuthatch below the visitors centre on the main path; goldcrests behind EM hide; bullfinches from Ted Jury hide; big siskin and redpoll flock by the Wright hide, song thrush too.

Update: From the visitors centre take the path signed "to the hides" and it was about 400yds on the brambles on the side of the path.

Yellow-browed Warbler in Alder between the River Pool path and East Marsh hide mid morning! Not seen again since 11am and found by Jim Timms is a Reserve 1st... well done Jim!
