Sunday 11.30-13.30 Usual suspects plus of note were: Buzzards,several over Brandon Wood, Sand Martin (6 over Swallow Pool), Swallow (1 over top reed bed), Redpoll (1), Nuthatch (1) both in Horsetail Glade, Oystercatcher plus Common Snipe (20 emp), Great Crested Grebe (several over reserve), Cettis Warbler & Chiffchaff (heard throughout reserve). Muntjac Deer (female on bank near new Sand Martin nest site)

Swallow (2), Grey Wagtail (1), Ringed Plover (2) Oystercatcher (2), Redshank (3), Pochard (2F), Sand Martin (40+), Chiffchaff (5), Little Grebe (2), Redpoll (5), Siskin (1), Redwing (5), Snipe (30+), Shelduck (1), Barnacle (1), Nuthatch (1) Treecreeper (2)
LBB, Herring & Common Gull all present, Cettis Warbler & Water Rail heard.

48 species incl a Curlew, 3 Redshanks, 2 Ringed Plovers & 24 Sand Martins. Several Chiffchaffs heard but only one Cetti's Warbler.

All day visit - Highlights

Final visit to main hide @ 4.30pm produced Ringed Plover (2)

First ever visit to Brandon - Excellent!! Big hide - saw 2 Redshank 2 - Oystercatcher - plus Little Ringed Plover landed on the island in front of the carlton hide but flew off quickly. Shelduck - Shoveler - Goldeneye - Buzzard - many Sand Martin - will definately visit again!!

Early Morning Visit - Highlights

Common Snipe (40+), Ringed Plover (2), Oystercatcher (4), Sand Martin (30+), Kingfisher (2), Barnacle Goose (1), Siskin/Redpoll Flock (15), Redwing (2), Nuthatch (1), Treecreeper (2), Juv Herring Gull, LBB Gull, Common Gull,
Usual Cettis Warbler, Little Grebe & Water Rail calling.
5 Pochard flew in (2M 3F) around 11am
Very windy - I left before rain set in!!

Common Snipe (55!)
54 on EMP, all but 3 on Willow Island. 1 on Carlton. Did a really careful count. Several other counters in hide counted between 52 and 55.
2 Small Tortoiseshell butterflies, and 2 butterflies of Vanessid size I just couldn't identify near Steetley hide - dark form Tortoiseshell(?).
3 Redshank. 1 Fieldfare. Long-tailed tits putting the finshing touches to a nest within three feet of a path. Pair of Mute Swan on WMP.
Male Reed Bunting in breeding plumage. 2 Common Gulls. 1 GS Woodpecker. 1 Green Woodpecker.
