Birds of note - Chiffchaff (in front of EM hide), Little Grebe,3 Goldeneye, Water Rail, Snipe, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, 3 Jay, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, Herring Gull, 7+ Common Gull, Redwing, Fieldfare, Siskin, Redpoll, Coldcrest, Nuthatch, GS & Green Woodpeckers. The Starling murmuration this evening consisted of around 1500 birds, way down on my last report but just as spectacular.

Chaffinch 10+, magpies, crows, rook, feral pigeons,greenfinch, goldfinch, robins, blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, coal tits, reed buntings, Gs woodpeckers, mistle thrush, fieldfare, dunnocks 2, nuthatch, jay, mute swan, blackbird, mallards 20+, shoveler 10+, gadwall 10+,coot 20 +, moorhen 3, tufted duck 10, greylag goose 5, Canada goose, b.h gull, herring gull, common gull, yellow legged gull 1, cormorant 2, wren, wigeon 20+, teal 5+, lapwing.
All seen around reserve between 10 -11 :30am.no siskins though so back to Gateshead empty handed.

Little Grebe, 17 Cormorant, 3 Goldeneye (♂, ♀ & imm ♂), Lapwing, Snipe, Sparrowhawk, 11+Comon Gull, 1 Herring Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, GS Woodpecker, Treecreeper, Goldcrest, 20+ Siskin, Redwing, Fieldfare, Bullfinch. The Starling murmuration this evening was the best I've seen for a number of years with over 4000 birds, not the largest but with the birds coming within touching distant to Carlton hide the sounds were impressive. Also a Sparrowhawk kept the Starlings from going down to roost so the birds were visible for well over half an hour.

1-30 - 4-30pm. East Marsh; Goldeneye (2 ♂,1 ♀), Pochard (2 ♀), Wigeon (40 +), good numbers of Gadwall, Shoveler & Teal, Lapwing (400+), Little Grebe, Snipe (2), Kingfisher, Yellow Legged Gull & a Muntjac on wigeon bank at 3-45pm. Others; Kestrel, Sparrowhank, Goldcrest & Chiffchaff. Around 4000 Starlings in roost on Newlands.

The Starling murmuration consisted of around 1500 birds including a light coloured possible melanistic Starling?
