Evening of 25th April: 2 cuckoos heard - one over golf course, the other beyond the river. Pair of Goosander on East Marsh Pool. Sedge and Reed Warbler around River Pool. Pair of Redshank - EMP. Several pairs of Oystercatchers - EMP. House Martins with Swallows over River Pool and elsewhere. Only one pair of Gadwall seen. No barn owls evident by 9.00.p.m. Solitary Ringed Plover - EMP.

23/4 Cetti's showing well by pond dipping pool at south end of Hope Wood and between Swallow Pool and Golf course. Little Egret and ♂ Wigeon East Marsh Pool, ♂ Goosander Swallow Pool. Good numbers of usual warblers and Sand Martin

Visit 23/4 7am-10am. 60 species in total,highlights included 2 Cuckoo (1 in oak tree on golf course & 1 in oak tree just beyond wind turbine path) also heard a 3rd calling on other side of reserve.♂ Goosander on pools opposite Wright hide. On East Marsh 2 Common Tern also Redshank,Oystercatcher,Ringed & Little Ringed Plover,Dunlin reported but not seen by us.Elsewhere plenty of Blackcap,Willow Warbler,Sedge Warbler,Whitethroat,Chiffchaff,Cetti's singing.Also plenty of Reed Warbler singing but not showing!

6:00am to 7:30am. Cracking views of Cettis Warbler belting out its explosive song from Steetley Hide. Blackcaps singing all way round. Few Waders on islands just 2 Redshank & LRP. Sedge, Willow warblers. No sign of Cuckoo or Grasshopper Warblers...

From hides: Kestrel, Redshank, Teal, Grey Heron, Jay, Sandmartins, Tufted Ducks, Chiffchaff, Cetti's Warbler, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Ringed Plovers, Buzzard, Canada Geese and Greylag Geese, Coot, Moorhen and Mallard, Great Tit, L-T Tits and Blue Tit.

By feeders outside Centre: G.S Woodpecker, Reed Bunting, Greenfinch and Chaffinch.

Cuckoo flew low over East Marsh 06:30hrs. White throat between Carlton & Ted Jury Hides 06:50. Greenshank landed on island East Marsh 07:15. Also: Min 4 Cettis Warbler Water Rail. Common Sandpiper.

East marsh; Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, Ringed Plover, Little Ringed Plover (4), Oystercatcher (4), Wigeon (♂) Shelduck (2). Teal Pool; Green Sandpiper, Redshank (2). Carlton hide; Common Whitethroat. Also Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler (4) & good numbers of Blackcap, Willow Warbler & Chiffchaff.. Roe Deer seen on path to sheep field at 9.35.
