A ♂ kingfisher from two hides (Steetley & Ted Jury); a Bittern flew in to Newlands Reedbed (seen from Carlton).
Also, shelduck & goldeneye on East Marsh Pool and a pair of goosander on Grebe Pool.

Top of Drive 20 Redwing in Tall tree. In Orchard behind center, Marsh/Willow tit. Near pathway opposite Grebe pool various birds feeding, Bullfinch, Goldfinch, ♀ Linnet. Elsewhere Shoveler. Heron. ♂ Goosander. Lots of Teal about. Gadwall. Tufted Duck. Heron. lots of Coot. 10+ Cormorant. GS Woodpecker Knocking. Buzzard over Avon. Goldcrest. emp. 400+ Black-headed Gulls. 10+ Great Black-backed Gulls. Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Herring Gulls. and a few Common Gulls.

A Bittern flew from the left and landed on a branch, above the reeds, directly opposite Steetley hide. It 'perched' for about 7 minutes,completely in the open and then flew down into the reeds and was not seen again. I took a number of photographs and a 2 minute video unfortunately all 'backlit' by the low sun as is usual in the afternoon from Steetley

A quiet day on the reserve but plenty of birds. Highlights for me were: nuthatch below the visitors centre on the main path; goldcrests behind EM hide; bullfinches from Ted Jury hide; big siskin and redpoll flock by the Wright hide, song thrush too.
